Holy Moly!

Oh my! It's been ages since I've posted something. By now, I'm sure I've lost my 2-3followers. I'm pretty sure I can't recount all that has happened since my last post, but I'm thinking I might try to recall "whatever". I kind of like this place to "vent". Believe me, there's been plenty of times I've needed to do this. So... Where to begin... what DO I remember since my last post. Stay tuned ...

What to Do?

I am SO far behind on this blog that I'm now having college freshman English assignment flashbacks. Not that I was ever behind on English assignments, it's just that I'm viewing this as a "task": Gotta have a topic sentence, gotta support it, gotta tie it up in the end, it might be more fun to read if it had humor, a clever title would be good, I'm not funny, etc. etc. - ERGH!
I've had a great summer with LOTS of activity. Can I even remember what all I did? Do I really want to spend hours writing about it? Does anyone even read this stuff? Why is the song, "Does anyone really know what time it is - Does anyone really care?" playing in my head right now?
I finally joined Facebook and it's keeping me plenty busy. I can stay in touch with lots of people through it. Do I need this? I don't know. It's kind of fun to go back and read what I've written. It's also a way to "vent". But as I age, I know this will get harder to do. Will one day I just read a bunch of (misspelled) gobblygook? I've already caught myself stuttering and stammering, not to mention repeating myself. Are my kids saying, "Have you noticed Mom's slipping?" Lol!
Somebody tell me what to do!

Girls, Girls, Girls

My fourth granddaughter arrived on June 24th weighing 7lbs.15oz. She's beautiful, of course, and I'm so excited that she's finally here. She wasn't actually due until the 25th, but my daughter scheduled an induction once the doctor approved. I was able to witness her birth, as I've also done with her other 2 girls. What an awesome experience! With her first daughter, I was kind of nervous and apprehensive about everything. When daughter #2 arrived, I was more comfortable and in total awe. This one arrived quickly - only about 3 minutes of pushing. Everything went well and I'm so thankful.

Chicks & Chocolate (aka ...)

I decided to attend one of the wives' functions during my husband's recent company outing. Mainly I chose to attend because I'd already shopped, and also visited with my son and daughter-in-law. I didn't really have anything else I wanted to do, except for lay by the pool. I could do that after the function.
The event was entitled "Chicks & Chocolate". Clever name - chocolate is always good. The literature also said, "lots of give-aways" and lunch was included. What the heck, why not try it?
BIG Mistake! The two functions were those stupid home-type parties where they want you to buy stuff - and it's expensive. You find yourself looking for the cheapest thing in the book, just to get out of there somewhat graciously. Do the words Pampered Chef and Longaberger Baskets ring a bell?
The first product was Arbonne. It's a skin care program that I've actually used, and still have many of the supplies. I was okay with listening to the spill because I'd only bought the product before, never having sat through the presentation. Since I was out of a few things, I ended up replenishing them, plus suckered myself into trying a few other items - to the tune of around $200.00. Yikes!
Next was lunch. It was buffet style with tossed salad, fresh fruit, and finger sandwiches. Dessert was a chocolate fountain accompanied with more fruit, and small cubes of white cake. Non-alcoholic beverages were offered. You'd think they would have been pushing the wine and margaritas to "up" your buying senses.
The afternoon session was a Southern Living party. I felt safe attending it, because I just don't need another thing to dust. I have plenty of entertaining bowls, napkins, etc. However, there was this patio ice bucket and stand that I really liked. I had borrowed a similar one from a friend a few months ago, and been on the look-out for one ever since. This one was perfect. But with tax included, it was going to cost $170.00. I'd already overspent at the first party so I was able to walk away from this tempatation.
The day was just "okay". But the kicker came when several days later, my husband informed me that we were charged $65.00 for me to attend. Talk about peeved! I spent $65.00 to spend $200.? I'm still fuming. Chicks and Chocolate? I'm thinking a more appropriate title might be "Dumb & Dumber".

On The Road Again

I've been traveling. First stop was Dallas where my husband attended a company function. BTW, the dog perked up and is doing fine. We were in Dallas from Friday until Tuesday. The following Thursday I needed to be in Edmond, OK to help out with grandbabies while my daughter and son-in-law participated in wedding activities for his brother. Rather than return to Houston, I drove to Okmulgee and spent two days with Diana. I was in Edmond until Sunday and then returned to Okmulgee until this past Friday when I drove to Little Rock to await the arrival of granddaughter #4 which is happening today.

Sick As A Dog

Yesterday, I woke up to a sick dog. He had upchucked in several spots. This was NOT good because he was supposed to be going to the groomer. I didn't realize he'd upchucked so many times so I went ahead and took him, thinking it must have been something he ate the night before. When I got back home, and saw all the other spots, I called the groomer to let them know. Thank goodness the grooming is done at a veterinarian's clinic. The vet examined him and gave him a shot. He's now also taking two pills - an antibiotic, and another one to curb the upchucking.
I probably shouldn't have taken him to get groomed, but we're going out of town today and he's going with us. I figured it was just something he ate the night before. I had given him a few bites of grilled pork tenderloin. He's on a fairly strict diet of prescription dog food so we rarely give him tablescraps. I had not given him that much.
He layed around the rest of the day and evening. I was just sure he'd be better by today. But he's still laying around this morning. He got a little excited when he woke up and went over by his treat spot. I gave him a small piece of one, along with his medicine. Now he's back resting. The true test will be when I start to get dressed. That's when he normally gets real excited because I then take him for a walk.
I'd better go get started. I still have lots to do and dealing with a sick dog is not part of my plan. Sure hope he's listening -

If Only . . .

A few postings ago I talked about going to a surprise retirement party for Larry. Another former co-worker showed up and it was really great to see her. We had been good friends, but had lost touch with one another, except for an occasional Christmas card/letter here and there. We verbally exchanged emails, and she sent me one this week.
I responded, but rather than retell the Diana break-in story, I referred her to this blog. I also suggested that if she was really bored, she could read all my postings to catch up. Well, I must have been really bored, because I went back and re-read them. When I came to the one where I was psyching myself up to diet, I thought, "Well crap!", because if only I'd stuck to my intent, I'd probably be 10 pounds lighter right now, maybe even more.
Instead, I'm out buying "disguise clothes". In my case, it's anything to hide stomach blubber. It's a great time to find them, because the style is actually somewhat popular. You know the ones I'm talking about. Back in my day, we called them "peasant tops". In reality, they're very maternity looking. They're also very long in length. I don't like that part, so yesterday I shortened one with some iron on hem tape.
My husband and I have been married for almost 34 years. We were both fit and thin for a long time. I actually started fat blossoming before him, even though he's older. But now we're both pretty much in the same boat, thank goodness. Anyway, he observed me working on the shortening process of the top. We were going out to meet another couple to listen to a Blues Brothers type concert. When I was finally ready, he made a comment that the top looked nice. I mentioned that I was trying to disguise my stomach and he agreed, that it worked. He even said that he wished there were tops out there for men that did the same thing. The disguise worked - but I know it's only temporary.
Damn weak will power!
