Let's say I gained 1 lb in a year. That doesn't sound too bad, does it? I mean if you only gained one pound in a year's time, you wouldn't think much of it. Oh but wait - what if you gained one pound in one year for the past 14 years? Now you get where I'm going. And where I thought I was, until yesterday when I went to the doctor and discoverd that I've gained 10lbs since last year. Yikes! If I keep up that pace, I just might soon BE a contender for "The Biggest Loser".
The doctor sent me to the lab for bloodwork to determine if I'm having a thyroid issue. I can pretty much guarantee that will be negative. What I'm having is a food to mouth issue.
Yesterday's smack in the face is still stinging today. Now my mind is wondering what to do about it. I've been thinking about it all day. I know how much determination it takes to stick with a weight loss plan. And since I'm giving it serious thought, I've been going to the pantry looking at all the "won't be able to have" stuff - and munching on it today.
Yesterday's visit was for my annual female exam. The day before I got my colonoscopy results back. Three polyps were found and removed. They were benign, but some types of polyps can become cancerous over time. Therefore, I'm supposed to return for another procedure in 3 years vs. 5 years. Also, in order to reduce the risk for new polyps, I was given a list of things to do:
1. Eat a low-fat, high-fiber diet
2. Maintain a healthy weight. Obesity increases your risk for colon cancer.
3. Exercise
4. Drink alcohol only in moderation, if at all
5. Don't smoke
I can easily handle #3 and #5. But 2/5 is not a very good percentage, is it? If this weren't enough, I also have something called Diverticulosis. Most people who have this remain symptom free, but 15-25% develop Diverticulitis, which can cause pain in the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, constipation and/or diarrhea, and urinary problems. So how do I reduce the risk for this? Well that would be the same list as the polyp reduction risk.
Crap crap triple crap! Looks like I'm doomed to "D". Wait - I still have a chance my thyroid will pull through and then a pill will solve all my problems! Chuckle chuckle - yea, right!

So many exciting things to look forward to! Sounds like right when I get these girls raised and off my paycheck then I'm going to have to worry about eating lots of fiber and exercising... what happened to retirement??
Glad your results came back favorable - well, noncancerous is favorable to me!! I recommend Fiber One bars and Beano.
