"da-da da-da da-da da da ... we're gonna have a good time ..." I'm headed to Washington, DC tomorrow to meet with my two sisters (and their good friend), to celebrate my oldest sister's 60th birthday. I know, 60 - kind of depressing. Thank goodness I've got more than 5 years before I have to do THAT. But we're going to have SO MUCH FUN. Seriously, walk into a Hallmark store and pick out one of those cards where there are 4 old ladies doing really fun, crazy stuff - and that's us.
My camera is going, so there WILL be pictures.

Evils of Golfing
I'm beginning to think that's what I should have entitled this blog as I sure seem to talk about it quite frequently. Today I almost wanted to smack one of the ladies I played with. In Big Girl golf, you have to keep track of your putts. I have trouble keeping track of most anything (as you know from prior posts) so I invested in a golf counter. It's a small white device I attach to my glove via velcro. After each hit, I turn the dial. And then once I get to the green, I stop turning and attempt to remember putts, which quite frankly is not THAT hard to do. Twice today, this lady said, "Are you sure?" She wasn't doubting my total score, just the number of putts, I guess because she thought - well heck, I'm not even sure what she thought. I just wanted to say, "Why do you care? Do I win a prize? If so, I'd be more than happy to give it to you. And how 'bout MYOB, be-otch!" Thank goodness there was another lady, who supported me on my putt memory. Good grief!

I won, I won!
There are advantages to being the worst golfer in the Big Girls golf, especially in an Eclectic tournament. I get LOTS of strokes, which is why I came in 4th place in the tournament. I ended up being paired with the same person, and she's really nice PLUS a great golfer. The good news is that I DID contribute. But I also whiffed 3 times! So embarrassing!

Tournament Bound
As I've mentioned before, Tuesday is Big Girl golf. Tomorrow and Wednesday involve a tournament, and I'm playing in it. It's called an "Eclectic" tournament which puts a good golfer with a not-so good one, and by now you know which of those is me. The first day you play and score as usual. You combine your net scores and then on the second day, you play to try and improve. If you don't improve, you just keep the score you had for that hole from the previous day.
I was kind of nervous about being paired with this one particular player that I've never even met. But I've seen her, and she pretty much ignores me. But I'm told she's just "different" - like a blonde living in her own little world. Call it uppity, or different - neither characteristic made me comfortable. Plus Alice got paired with her last year and told me it was not the most pleasant experience for her.
When the draw was done two days ago, I stopped by the pro shop and learned I was paired with someone I've met at an exercise class, and I was thrilled. But then yesterday I found out they're going to have to re-draw, because 3 players have dropped out. Now I don't find out who I'm paired with until tomorrow, which will be too late to back out. Nah, I wouldn't do that anyway as it's not my nature. My good friend, who is also a good golfer, told me that most of the good golfers will be happy to find out they're paired with me because I get lots of strokes, due to my high handicap. So stay tuned . . .
PS: I had my husband give me a sand lesson and when we played yesterday, I got in the same sand trap as the one from the other day that took 7 strokes to get out. I was out in 1. WOOHOO!

Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin
Facial hair at 50+ for a woman is just as annoying as pubic hair at any age! Sometimes, I just want to say to God, "What were you thinking?" Why do we need this?
And at 50+ it all intensifies - well maybe 40ish for the pubes. It starts growing down your legs and you find yourself having to shave in places you never dreamed of going. Or you go to places you never dreamed of going - like salons that will wax it off (although I've not yet done that). But I HAVE resorted to utilizing dog shears - They work well, and it's quick. Just close all doors and hike your leg over a wastebasket. Then hope like heck, your child or hubby doesn't enter. And be careful - it's a sensitive area.
Now back to the chin. I have a sister who just shaves it off. Has done it for years, and says it works great. I've tried it. But I still notice little black nubs, which bug the heck out of me, so I pluck. But then it breaks just right below the skin surface, so I pretty much dig, trying again. And in the end, it looks like I have a severe case of acne. Disgusting, I know. I believe I mentioned having many hang-ups in my first post, along with spelling issues.
I've been somewhat fortunate that my mustache hair has been blonde, and not too thick - unless you're really "in my face" - such as my hairdresser. My hairdresser happens to be my daughter. So she decided I needed my "stache" waxed. "Hells Bells!" is all I can say to that. It hurts, big time! And although I let her do it, I still complain. I can't even imagine a bikini wax. I'd have to be put out. Think I'll stick with the shears.

Sleepless in Sugar Land
I am SO tired of waking up every night. This is even worse than when I had a newborn. Mine only woke up once, and then again early in the morning. I, on the other hand, wake up sometimes 4-5 times a night. Many times it's just to go potty, where I stagger into the john and hope the seat is down. Sometimes, I just need a drink of water - especially noticeable on wine or toddy nights. I've gotten better at remembering to leave water on the nightstand. But then I drink the water, and the next wake-up is definitely a potty trip.
I guess I should be thankful that the potty is not that far from my bed. Growing up, we lived in a Cape Cod style home where the upstairs was a dormer type bedroom - with NO potty. I don't remember it to be a problem, except when we got sick. OMG - my poor mother having to clean that up. Maybe that's why I always told my own kids to just upchuck in the bed. Then all I had to do was wash the sheets - or throw them away. Now, when I go back to my homestead, although I'd love to stay in that upstairs dormer for nostalgia(sp?) purposes, I choose the downstairs bedroom because it's near the potty.
Sometimes I take Tylenol PM. I usually don't notice it kicking in right away, but there are times when I wake up WAY later than usual, thinking, "Whoa - I did I really just sleep til 7:30 - 8:00AM? What's crazy about that is I'm now able to sleep until whenever I want - but I can't! I mean, I'm lucky if I make it to 6:30AM. It's SO annoying!

Accomplishment"s"
Today was Big Girl golf day. I played twice last week with my regular golfing buddy and we both decided we would play. The secretary of Big Girl golf had sent out a questionnaire and one of the questions was, "What is your golf goal for 09?" to which I responded, "To not be intimidated by you really good golfers". So when my regular golfing buddy called last night and said she couldn't make it today, I went anyway. Yay for me!! And I actually played decent - until the last hole. Couldn't get out of the sand, again. Good thing it was the last hole or I probably would have wanted to quit again. I swung 7 times before getting out. And it was a Par 3 hole!! My ball actually got out a few times, only to roll back in. Damn Sand!
So after playing, one of the other ladies in the group (Alice) wanted to stay for lunch. Strange thing is that she is a friend of an elderly lady I'd talked to in church last Sunday (Dolly) who'd specifically asked me if I knew Alice, and to be sure and tell her "hello" if I saw her. Dolly had asked how she was doing because she'd just had a double masectomy in August. Wow, I didn't know that. Well she was doing well enough to play 18 holes of golf, that's for sure. At lunch we visited about how she knew Dolly, and also about her masectomy. The cancer had been detected after a mammogram and she was quite shocked, as she'd had no symptoms or history in the family. In addition to the d-masectomy, she's now taking chemo and has lost her hair. She won't be able to play next week because it's chemo week. I'm amazed she's playing at all. I shared my niece's cancer story with her and told her I still needed to schedule a colonoscopy. She seemed surprised that I'd never had one and encouraged me to do so. It's been on my list of things "to do".
So in addition to playing golf all by myself with the Big Girls today, I came home and called the doctor's office. I am now scheduled to go for my first intake colonoscopy visit - tomorrow!
