Today was Big Girl golf day. I played twice last week with my regular golfing buddy and we both decided we would play. The secretary of Big Girl golf had sent out a questionnaire and one of the questions was, "What is your golf goal for 09?" to which I responded, "To not be intimidated by you really good golfers". So when my regular golfing buddy called last night and said she couldn't make it today, I went anyway. Yay for me!! And I actually played decent - until the last hole. Couldn't get out of the sand, again. Good thing it was the last hole or I probably would have wanted to quit again. I swung 7 times before getting out. And it was a Par 3 hole!! My ball actually got out a few times, only to roll back in. Damn Sand!
So after playing, one of the other ladies in the group (Alice) wanted to stay for lunch. Strange thing is that she is a friend of an elderly lady I'd talked to in church last Sunday (Dolly) who'd specifically asked me if I knew Alice, and to be sure and tell her "hello" if I saw her. Dolly had asked how she was doing because she'd just had a double masectomy in August. Wow, I didn't know that. Well she was doing well enough to play 18 holes of golf, that's for sure. At lunch we visited about how she knew Dolly, and also about her masectomy. The cancer had been detected after a mammogram and she was quite shocked, as she'd had no symptoms or history in the family. In addition to the d-masectomy, she's now taking chemo and has lost her hair. She won't be able to play next week because it's chemo week. I'm amazed she's playing at all. I shared my niece's cancer story with her and told her I still needed to schedule a colonoscopy. She seemed surprised that I'd never had one and encouraged me to do so. It's been on my list of things "to do".
So in addition to playing golf all by myself with the Big Girls today, I came home and called the doctor's office. I am now scheduled to go for my first intake colonoscopy visit - tomorrow!
